Hot Car Dangers

With the summer heat upon us, it is a good time to keep in mind just how deadly a car or truck can be when kids and pets are left unattended.  Heat is among the biggest weather-related killers in the United States.

At Car Craft Auto Body the focus is not exclusively on repairing vehicles, it’s on protecting the well-being of the drivers and passengers in those cars any time they’re driving.

We would like to do everything we can to educate people about the safety of their motor vehicles in the summer sun.  Car Craft Auto Body encourages vehicle operators to plan their trips so there is no need to leave somebody – or any pet – in a car or truck that isn’t running with the air condition turned on.  And, it’s vital that you remember that even one or two minutes in a hot automobile can have huge effects.  You always want to take those extra precautions to ensure the safety of your family.Studies show that the temperature inside a parked motor vehicle can swiftly rise to a dangerous level for kids, pets and even adults.  Leaving the windows slightly open does not considerably decrease the heating rate.  On an 85-degree day, the temperature inside a car or truck with the windows opened slightly can reach 102 degrees within 10 minutes.  After a half hour, the temperature will reach 120 degrees.

The non-profit safety group, KidsandCars.org affirms that many heat-related vehicular tragedies occur because a driver sometimes forgets a kid is there.  Youngsters can also get into unlocked automobiles without any grownup knowing it just happened.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Association has some pointers to help keep young ones and pets safe throughout the heat of summer:

•   Never leave young ones, disabled adults or pets alone in a hot car, even temporarily

•   Always remember to check the front and back seats of the automobile before you lock it and leave

•   See a little one alone in a warm car? Call 911 instantly. Get them out as soon as possible if they’re in distress

•   Always lock your car when it’s empty so kids can’t get in without you knowing

The people at Car Craft Auto Body are so happy that you are taking the time to read about the necessity of summer vehicle safety. Whether you are in Chesterield, Bridgeton, Maryland Heights, Wildwood or anywhere in the St Louis area, if you would like more superb advice, call us at 314-291-2356
